About:
The shō is a rare mouth organ consisting of 17th slender bamboo pipes, first used over 1300 years ago in Gagaku - the Imperial Court music of Japan.
The Gagaku orchestra is considered to be the oldest form of orchestral music, recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
I studied with world-renowned Miyumi Miyata in Tokyo. She was the first shō player to specialise in Western contemporary music, collaborating with the likes of John Cage and Björk.
I have been performing/recording for over 20 years. The recordings will be of professional quality, ready to be used commercially. I can play from a traditional score/contemporary/graphic score, or make my own improvisation based on a given concept or idea, in the genre of your choosing including classical, contemporary, and electronic music.
The shō's rich cultural history and distinct timbre will make your project stand out. Feel free to message me any questions before we begin.
